Aviva Asher
Urban Farm Manager and Educator

Aviva Asher has worked as an urban farmer for the Federation of Neighborhood Centers since January of 2011.  In addition to her farming duties, Aviva has supervised and trained youth in all aspects of farming, from planting and harvesting to delivering goods to market and recording sales.  Aviva also works as an urban farmer for Greensgrow Farms, with many of the same responsibilities as she has at the Federation.  Prior to accepting her current urban farmer positions, Aviva sharpened her craft as an Agriculture Extension Intern at Unión de Cooperativas Agropecuarias Héroes y Mártires Miraflor in Estelí, Nicaragua and at Fundación Cosecha Sostenible in Bluefields, Nicaragua. 

Aviva rich agricultural and farming experience has also included positions as a Grower’s Assistant at Powissett Farm in Dover, MA; Teacher / Farm Intern at Fundación Paraguaya, San Francisco Agriculture School, Paraguay; and as Agricultural Crew Leader at Smokey House Center in Danby, Vermont.  Aviva has also worked as Program Director for Groundwork Somerville in Somerville, MA, where she taught science-based curricula to elementary and middle-school students, provided professional development to teachers, and designed, planted, and maintained nine school gardens.  Aviva received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Science, with a Focus on Agroecology, from Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont.
